“Prima Materia “ — Jakay Jason and Asikey George showcase a rare kind of synergy.

The writer gets a call requesting him to review a project .

He goes through his mail and retrieves the review-intended materials.

On the first click of ‘This’ -the first track on the EP, the writer had to confirm if he was reviewing a Nigerian body of work because it sounded so foreign.

He then does a background check on both artists and before he can finally relate to their sounds.

Prima Materia’ Greek for ‘first material ‘ is a Collaborative EP by Alternative soul artist Asikey George and her go-to producer Jakay Jason .

Asikey George sound is quite unique and unsurprisingly alien to the Nigerian music norms – her 2017 Afrima awards for "best female artist in inspirational music" and three consecutive nominations at the same award show further accentuates the popular saying of ‘The preacher is never loved in his home land’.

On ‘This ‘ the instrumentation has an house feel and it almost makes you think you are listening to a South African artist.

And details was put into the beats with tidbits of sparse instruments added layer by layer and Jaykay flexing his production muscles on this song.
